Valery G.BABICH
President of Ukrainian Financial Group

Valery BABICH was born on the 25th of August 1953 in Brody, Lviv Region, Ukraine. Mr. BABICH holds a University degree in economics which he obtained in Kyiv. He worked for the Ukrainian Academy of Science and youth’s public organisations, State Economic Planning Committee of Ukraine. In 1990 he organised and led Inter-Invest company. In 1991 Valery BABICH was elected Chairman of the Board of JSC Ukrainska Birzha (Ukrainian Exchange), which was reorganized as JSC Ukrainian Financial Group in 1992. Valery BABICH was elected President of Ukrainian Financial Group. In 1994 and 1998 he was elected to Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) of Ukraine and held his office as a permanent member of Verkhovna Rada for two consecutive terms. In July 2002 he was elected President of JSC Ukrainian Financial Group.

Valery BABICH’s activities as a politician and public activist also included the activity of Advisor of President Leonid KRAVCHUK on market reform affairs in 1993 and 1994. In 1994 elections Mr. BABICH ran for presidency of Ukraine. Since 1998, he has been at the head of the political party, All-Ukrainian Christian Association.

Valery BABICH initiated and led a number of public organizations supporting democracy and market reforms in Ukraine and the CIS countries. In particular, in 1991 he was elected Chairman of the Congress of Exchanges of the Soviet Union. Since Ukrainian independence, Valery BABICH headed Ukrainian Business Congress, East European Association of Entrepreneurs, and All-Ukrainian Union of Entrepreneurs. Mr. BABICH was a co-founder of the Ukrainian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (USPP), and was elected to the Union’s different governing bodies. He has been actively involved in activities aimed at the development of Ukraine’s ties with foreign countries in political, social, economic, cultural and other areas. Within these activities, he presided at Ukrainian Federation for Friendship with Foreign Countries, Ukrainian International Christian Charity Fund, and was also elected Vice Chairman of Taras Shevchenko Foundation (named after the great Ukrainian poet of the 19th century). Valery BABICH has been widely involved in sponsorship and charity activities in Ukraine and supported numerous initiatives in science, education, culture, arts, literature, and sports.
